PDFs can store efficient text and vectors, already compressed photographs, scans, fonts, forms and scripts. There is no single browser switch that safely reduces every file without changing something.
PNGCut uses a transparent image-based method. It renders the visible appearance of every page and rebuilds a new PDF from compressed JPG page images. This can be effective for scan-heavy documents, but it removes selectable text, links, forms, signatures and accessibility structure.
The result should be treated as a convenient sharing copy. Keep the source for editing, search, archiving, accessibility and verification.

Inside the browser
PDF.js renders pages to canvases using settings derived from the selected strength. The browser encodes each canvas as a JPG and PDF-lib places the image on a matching page.
PNGCut repeats the document across several progressively smaller settings and compares byte sizes. It keeps the best genuinely smaller candidate.
If no attempt beats the original, it reports that outcome rather than forcing a larger file to download.
A reliable workflow
Duplicate the source first and decide the minimum readable quality for the recipient or upload portal.
Do not close the tab or repeatedly press the action button while processing is active. When the download finishes, open the result and verify it before deleting the source.
Inputs, outputs and quality
Higher strength usually means fewer rendered pixels and stronger JPG compression. It can make photographs smaller but may blur text, diagrams and thin lines.
A source made of vector text can already be smaller than a page screenshot. An image-heavy scan may shrink more. Always judge the actual result instead of relying on a percentage alone.

The source pages, canvas pixels and generated PDF remain in the current browser workflow. The downloaded copy can still expose every visible detail.
Local processing reduces unnecessary transfer, but the device, browser profile and extensions still matter. Work on a trusted device, use a maintained browser and follow the document or image owner’s rules.
PNGCut does not use files selected in this workspace for AI training. Reset the tool or close the tab after saving the result to release the temporary browser objects.
Realistic speed
Several complete render passes can be demanding. Page count and pixel dimensions matter more than the apparent simplicity of the document.
No responsible browser tool can promise the same number of seconds on every phone and computer. File complexity, available memory, browser version and power-saving settings all affect processing time.
If a large job fails, retry with fewer files or a smaller source, close unused tabs and keep the page in the foreground. Repeated clicks can add work rather than make the current job faster.
